Description
Want to eat grilled shirmp but has no time to setup the grill? This a perfect recipe for you. It requires very little setup except you have to have frozen shrimp. The idea is that microwave heats up the water in the shrimp and steam cook the shrimp. All we need is to add some spice and wrap the container with clear fridge warp while the shirmp is steamed.
It's a good idea to stock up frozen shrimp in your fridege. I can be used for a quick pasta topping, microwave, stir fry, grill. Frozen shrimp also last a long time.
Ingredients
- 1⁄2 lb frozen shrimp
Instructions
- thaw the shrimps
- seperates shrimps skin and tail from the shrimp.
- pad dry the shimps with paper towel
- sprinkle the shrimps with your favorate spice. I used "Old Bay" in the picture. You can use chilly powder, steak spice, grill rub etc.
- cover the container with clear fridge food wrapper. Leave a big hole on the side for air to flow out.
- microwave the shrimps for 2.5 minites.
Notes
When I thaw anything meat, I usualy put it in a sandwitch bag and put the bag in warm water. You can put the bag in cold water. The reason you should avoid putting the bag in hot water is sometime meat gets cooked in hot water a little but not well cooked. The meet will taste funny later on.
The reason we want to cover the shirmp with clear wrap is to keep the hot air in and keep the steam in. We want to create a "steam" effect in the microwave oven.
Cooking time depends on the power output of your microwave oven. Different oven differ quite a bit. For seafood you usually want to error on the over cook side. Sea food does not change it tastes much when they are over cooked a little. To tell if the shimp is cooked, cut it open and make sure inside is white and opaque. If it is still transparent looking or non-white, microwave some more.
